Terms of service
Last updated: 17 September 2026
These Terms of Service govern access to and use of the BioStrategy Atlas website and platform (the “Atlas”).
By accessing or using the BioStrategy Atlas, you agree to comply with these Terms of Service. Additional terms may apply to paid licences and other forms of access.
1. About the BioStrategy Atlas
The BioStrategy Atlas is an evidence-based resource for exploring national and supranational bioeconomy strategies and strategies in development.
Eligible strategies are analysed through a common analytical framework comprising three bioeconomy visions and 40 Analytical Categories.
The Atlas analyses strategy content and strategic orientation. It does not assess the overall performance, capability, maturity or level of bioeconomy activity of a country or region.
2. Access to the BioStrategy Atlas
Different levels of access may be available depending on the type of user and access arrangement.
Selected BioStrategy Atlas content may be available without a user account.
Eligible World BioEconomy Association (WBA) members receive full access to the BioStrategy Atlas as part of their membership, without a separate Atlas licence fee.
Non-members may obtain full access through an applicable annual BioStrategy Atlas licence.
Access rights are personal or organisational, as applicable, and may not be transferred or shared with unauthorised persons or organisations.
3. User accounts
Where an account is required, users must provide accurate and current information.
Users are responsible for keeping their login credentials confidential and for activity carried out through their accounts.
Login credentials must not be shared with unauthorised users.
If you become aware of unauthorised access to or use of your account, please contact us promptly.
4. Permitted use
The BioStrategy Atlas may be used for legitimate internal business, policy, research, educational and informational purposes, subject to the access rights applicable to the user or organisation.
Users may refer to information and insights obtained from the Atlas in their own work, provided that the BioStrategy Atlas is appropriately acknowledged where applicable.
Unless expressly authorised, users may not:
- resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute access to the Atlas;
- systematically download, scrape, extract or reproduce substantial portions of Atlas content or data;
- reproduce or redistribute substantial parts of the Atlas database, Country Cards or evidence notes;
- make licensed content or access credentials available to unauthorised third parties;
- circumvent or attempt to circumvent access controls or security measures;
- interfere with the operation, functionality or security of the Atlas; or
- use the Atlas or its content in violation of applicable law.
5. Intellectual property
The BioStrategy Atlas and its content, database, analytical framework, methodology, evidence notes, design and other protected materials are subject to intellectual property rights and applicable intellectual property laws.
Access to the BioStrategy Atlas does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property rights to the user.
Except where expressly permitted by these Terms of Service, applicable licence terms or applicable law, BioStrategy Atlas materials may not be reproduced, distributed, modified, commercially exploited or made available to third parties without permission from the relevant rights holder.
6. Methodology and interpretation
The BioStrategy Atlas uses a common analytical framework to support consistent analysis of bioeconomy strategies.
The BioStrategy Atlas is not a ranking.
Each eligible strategy is analysed independently using the same analytical framework. Differences between strategy profiles reflect differences in documented strategic emphasis and policy choices and should not be interpreted as measures of relative performance, ambition, maturity or success.
A strategy with more Analytical Categories classified as included is not considered stronger, more advanced or more successful than a strategy with fewer included categories.
The Atlas focuses on official bioeconomy strategy documents and other eligible official sources in accordance with its methodology. The absence of a national bioeconomy strategy from the Atlas does not imply an absence of bioeconomy activity, policies, programmes, industrial development or related initiatives in that country.
Similarly, where an Analytical Category is not identified as included, this does not necessarily mean that the relevant activity, capability or policy area is absent from the country. It means that it was not identified as an explicit strategic priority based on the applicable Atlas methodology and evidence criteria.
Strategies in development are tracked separately and may contain more limited information until an eligible strategy document becomes available.
7. Accuracy and updates
The BioStrategy Atlas is a living resource and may be updated as strategies, official source materials and the global bioeconomy policy landscape evolve.
Reasonable care is taken to use reliable and official sources and to apply the Atlas methodology consistently. However, no guarantee is made that all information will at all times be complete, current or free from errors.
Users who identify information that may require correction or updating are encouraged to contact us.
8. Service availability
We aim to maintain reliable access to the BioStrategy Atlas but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
Access to all or part of the Atlas may occasionally be restricted or unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, security requirements, updates or circumstances beyond reasonable control.
The content, functionality and technical features of the Atlas may be updated or modified as the service develops.
9. No professional advice
The BioStrategy Atlas is provided for informational, analytical and research purposes.
Information available through the Atlas does not constitute legal, financial, investment or other professional advice.
Users remain responsible for decisions made on the basis of information obtained through the Atlas and should obtain appropriate professional advice where necessary.
10. Paid licences
Paid access to the BioStrategy Atlas may be offered through annual organisational licences.
The applicable licence category, price, access period, taxes and payment conditions will be presented at the time of purchase or otherwise agreed with the customer.
Additional terms relating to purchases, payments, renewals, cancellations and refunds may be set out in separate Terms of Sale or applicable licence terms.
11. Suspension and termination of access
Access to the BioStrategy Atlas may be suspended or terminated where a user materially breaches these Terms of Service, misuses the Atlas, compromises its security, provides access to unauthorised users, or fails to meet applicable payment or licence obligations.
Where reasonably possible, users will be given an opportunity to remedy a breach before access is terminated.
Expiration, cancellation or termination of a WBA membership or paid Atlas licence may also result in the termination of the associated full-access rights.
12. Limitation of liability
The BioStrategy Atlas is provided subject to the limitations permitted by applicable law.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the parties responsible for providing the BioStrategy Atlas shall not be liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising from the use of, or inability to use, the Atlas or reliance on information contained in it.
Nothing in these Terms of Service excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law.
13. Privacy and cookies
Personal data processed in connection with the BioStrategy Atlas is handled in accordance with the BioStrategy Atlas Privacy Policy.
The use of cookies and similar technologies is described in the Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the BioStrategy Atlas Cookie Policy or Cookie Settings.
